    Assistant Vice President of Membership - AALU

     

    As Assistant Vice President of Membership for the Association for Advanced Life Underwriting (AALU), you will report to the Senior Vice President of Business Development & Marketing, manage a staff of two, and actively drive membership and revenue. You will play a pivotal role in the continued growth of AALU by improving our value proposition and engaging new members. One of our top strategic priorities is to exponentially grow our membership and we’re already achieving significant successes. You will proactively approach individuals and organizations within the industry, share our value proposition, and engage them as new members. Our priority is to create an inclusive environment that attracts younger, more diverse new members.

     

    In this role, you will provide the strategic direction for membership growth, leveraging internal staff and outside resources to accomplish our ambitious goals. We have strikingly little bureaucracy here, so you can put your ideas into action. You will lead our volunteer leadership programs, engage with our current members, and talk every day with potential new members.

     

    AALU’s members help individuals and families secure their retirement and maintain financial independence in the face of potential catastrophe. Our members work with businesses large and small to protect their employees, finance benefit plans, and provide liquidity in a crisis. Our own members often pass their businesses down through generations. Our members’ work is noble – we are there for people in their time of need.

     

    Our mission is to advocate on behalf of our members who promote the financial and retirement security of the American people. Since 1957, we have provided our members with essential tools and services for professional development, networking, and advocacy. We are the voice in Washington to help defeat excessive regulations and increased taxation, saving our members time and money.


    Goals for Your First Year

    • Increase membership. We have a total membership of more than 2,100 members. Our goal is 3 percent annual growth of professional members during the next year.
    • Evaluate and expand our membership categories. You will lead us in assessing new categories, pricing strategies, and membership benefits which will lead to incremental growth of the organization.
    • Develop a deliberate volunteer development program. You will actively invite new members to be volunteers.
    • Represent AALU. You will build relationships, cultivate potential new members, promote membership and make connections in our community.
    • Work with the SVP of Business Development & Marketing to create new member programs, such as an affinity program.

     

    Responsibilities of the Assistant Vice President of Membership

    • Grow revenue through the creation and implementation of sales and marketing practices that meet the unique needs of the financial security professional.
    • Build and motivate a small team of sales people.
    • Develop and utilize AALU member key contacts for assistance in the solicitation process outside of the recruiting teams.
    • Attend industry and company events to build relationships and recruit new members. This will require some travel.
    • Coordinate with other departments to develop and qualify leads.
    • Provide insight into the views of prospects and new members for purposes of product and service development, analysis, and planning.

     

    Qualifications of the Assistant Vice President of Membership

    • Bachelor’s degree and at least 8 years of experience in membership, sales, or business development. Experience working in a customer-focused environment.
    • At least 3 years of management experience. Ability to build and lead a successful sales team.
    • Strong written and verbal communication, and a great phone manner. Strong business acumen; ability to relate to corporate executives and highly successful independent business leaders. Ability to give executive-level presentations.
    • Knowledge and experience with issues pertaining to life insurance and annuity products is a plus.
