    Human Resources Manager -AFP


    At the Association for Financial Professionals (AFP), HR is fully integrated into our business operations and is integral to the achievement of our strategic plan. In this role, you will report directly to the managing director of people & training and support a total staff of 70. Your work will focus primarily on employee development, recruiting, and performance management, along with benefits and general HR administration. You will move the organization forward by coaching, counseling, hiring the best talent, and facilitating a culture of high performance.     You will spend more than half of your time problem solving and coaching managers and staff, providing guidance and supporting their efforts. You will spend the rest of your time managing performance initiatives and leading recruitment and sourcing efforts to hire high performers. AFP enjoys low staff turnover – 70 percent of our current employees were promoted from within. We anticipate the need to hire 10 – 15 people this year.

You will maintain our reputation with all staff as an honest broker with an open door policy. We will rely on you to be employee-focused and have the confidence to hold effective, well-thought-out discussions and coaching sessions, essentially respected as a trusted advisor for all staff.

    Responsibilities of the Human Resources Manager

    Recruitment and onboarding

    • Responsible for full life cycle recruitment, including writing and placing advertisements, reviewing resumes, screening candidates, scheduling and conducting interviews, conducting reference checks, ensuring all verifications/education checks are approved, and delivering/negotiating offers within the approved
    • Meet with all hiring managers to create and execute a recruitment strategy. Identify ideal candidate profiles and, in coordination with the managing director, people & training, finalize approved job description and benchmarked salary for each role. Proactively identify and make recommendations on how to overcome roadblocks in the recruiting process.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with hiring managers, staffing agencies, and vendors.
    • Maintain compliance within the recruiting process. Maintain recruitment files, prepare offer packets, and ensure a smooth candidate journey.
    • Develop and facilitate the employee onboarding process by working with individual hiring managers to develop 6-week onboarding plans and schedule new hire orientation programs. Maintain the calendar for new hire training and conduct appropriate follow up to ensure new hires are properly onboarded.

    Benefits administration

    • Manage all benefit and insurance programs, including all AFP sponsored benefit plans and third-party administrators, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, and unemployment compensation benefits.
    • Establish strong relationships with and ensure ongoing communication with benefits and other insurance providers.
    • Partnering with benefits brokers, manage the annual benefits renewal process. Prepare and present calculations and recommendations for benefit updates and changes based on market data and research of similar organizations.
    • With assistance from ADP, research and solve problems concerning benefits module and answer all employee inquiries in a timely manner. Leverage ADP offerings and reporting functions to improve employee experience and streamline HR practices.
    • Prepare benefits side of payroll bi-weekly and partner with finance to ensure a smooth payroll process.
    • Maintain and update benefits and payroll-related documentation, including benefits summaries, employee self-service information, and Sarbanes Oxley guidelines.

    Performance management/salary administration

    • Manage the annual job description update process. Maintain up-to-date job descriptions for all positions and ensure ratings in HRIS are correct. Rate job descriptions and establish salary ranges within the AFP Job Evaluation System. Provide recommendations based on market pricing and benchmarks.
    • With the managing director, manage the annual performance management, salary administration, and incentive compensation processes.

    HR administration

    • Maintain the HRIS (ADP Workforce Now) and compliant personnel and HR-related files. Lead and execute employee personnel file storage on and off-site. Follow the HR Record & Retention Policy.
    • Develop and execute training and development efforts. Serve as a point of contact with trainers, track attendance, and record training evaluations.
    • Gather data and participate in compensation and benefits surveys on behalf of AFP.
    • Respond to all HR-related questions from employees in a prompt manner and within the same day. Enforce HR policies.
    • Keep abreast of changes in HR wage, employment, and benefit regulations. Keep abreast of HR best practices, make recommendations, and facilitate continuous HR improvements aligned with AFP’s overall strategy.
    • Manage all poster compliance within the office and remote employee state laws.
    • Facilitate AFP’s BEE (Boost Employee Engagement) Committee, a staff-run committee responsible for organizing staff events and volunteer activities, to ensure a positive culture and opportunity for employees to interact with each other during non-work events.
    • Execute the AFP benefits onboarding and out-processing of all employees.


    Qualifications of the Human Resources Manager

    • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
    • 7 years of relevant experience.
    • PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP preferred.
    • Proficient in MS Office.
    • Ability to travel.
    • Previous HRIS experience. ADP experience a plus.
