Content Writer / Editor - CMAA



As content writer/editor at the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA), you will have the opportunity to work on many different types of projects. You will spend your time focused on editing and writing content for our digital and print communications, social media accounts, website, correspondence, white papers, articles, speeches, and other written and content marketing materials. You will receive content and ideas from across the organization and will edit or write meaningful copy that appeals to our members – ultimately leading to growth and engagement for CMAA’s services and events.



CMAA has nearly 16,000 members which include individual CM practitioners, corporate members, and construction owners in the public and private sectors, along with academic and associate members. CMAA also has 29 regional chapters and student chapters at colleges and universities across the country. CMAA's mission is to promote the profession of construction management and the use of qualified construction managers on capital projects and programs.


Responsibilities of the Content Writer

  • Write, edit, and proofread communications, marketing, and publishing products, including but not limited to newsletters, press releases, social media and email campaigns, brochures, white papers, articles, correspondence, speeches, and conference presentations.
  • Execute tasks related to marketing and promotion of the association’s national events, including the Capital Projects Symposium, the National Conference & Trade Show, and other events.
  • Prepare scripts and A/V materials, as directed by the vice president.
  • Monitor the association’s presence in social media, develop content postings, and help sustain a consistent CMAA strategy for using social media tools to advance the mission and vision of CMAA.
  • Create promotional copy for email campaigns and social media posts (primarily Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn).
  • Prepare materials to promote the Certified Construction Manager program.
  • Prepare materials for use by regional chapters, student chapters, and educational institutions.
  • Create and maintain content for the association’s website in online communities in collaboration with staff teams.
  • Maintain freshness in the copy by continually reviewing work and monitoring efficacy.


Qualifications of the Content Writer

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, marketing, or related field.
  • Two to three years of experience writing and editing a broad range of communications and marketing copy.
  • Professional society or member/trade association experience a plus.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills. Ability to develop communications that convey a clear understanding of the needs of your audience.
  • Adobe InDesign experience a plus.
