    Organizational Development Professional - JHU

     

    Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) is a complex organization with highly educated employees, over 74 percent of whom are engineers and scientists.     Reporting to the Supervisor of Talent Development and working in close consultation with other learning consultants and HR business partners, you will develop programmatic solutions to address organization-wide needs. You will perform needs assessments, identify goals and use metrics to track progress.  You will work with leaders across the organization to address their organizational development needs, including reorganizations, team development, leadership development, onboarding, developing a coaching culture, and effective performance management.

     

    As a creative thinker, we will look to you for fresh, insightful analyses and a big picture vision while leading projects that break new ground and create meaningful, lasting results. In this role, you will collaborate with HR business partners and leadership/staff in the Organizational Effectiveness Group (Compensation and Benefits, Talent Development, and Diversity and Employee Engagement) to identify and leverage synergies.

     

    Responsibilities of the Organizational Development Professional

    • Provide a combination of organizational assessment, strategic HR thinking, management consulting, and counseling to support increased effectiveness and achievement of APL’s organizational strategic goals and objectives.
    • Work closely with HR strategic partners and generalists to understand organizational needs.
    • Take the lead in continued development and implementation of an organization-wide onboarding program.
    • Identify, design, develop, direct, and facilitate innovative and effective learning solutions regarding leadership, onboarding, and performance coaching. Support APL’s leadership development strategic priority.
    • Assess existing individual sector solutions to determine applicability to other departments, incorporating into the overall OD strategy as appropriate.
    • Leverage appropriate metrics and analytics to evaluate OD project effectiveness, evaluating the success and value of solutions. Report conclusions and make recommendations to leaders and stakeholders.
    • Collaborate with talent development and organization effectiveness colleagues to identify organization needs and systems and identify solutions. Coordinate the administration of contracts, websites, files, and archives related to developed solutions. 

    Qualifications of the Organizational Development Professional

    • Minimum of 8 years of organizational development experience, especially in large organizations.
    • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree or certification in organizational development, human resources, or related field preferred.
    • Experience doing related work in a technical or professional environment.
    • Practical experience in consulting with internal business partners (HR generalists) to identify needs and develop innovative solutions.
    • Demonstrated understanding of the latest leadership development theories.
    • Able to develop strong working relationships, manage projects, facilitate change processes, and effectively communicate to achieve organizational goals.
    • Demonstrated analytical decision-making, project management, group facilitation, innovative problem solving, prioritization, and internal consulting.
    • Extremely strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Experience leading teams and/or managing others.
